All of the cataract surgery in Akihabara Eye clinic is done by Dr. Takayuki akahoshi , the director of ophthalmology Department at Mitsui Memorial Hospital.
The equipments which we use such as microscope, ultrasound emulsification vacuum system are also used at Mitsui Memorial Hospital. We can operate the cataract surgery on that day, your hospital charges are needless. Therefore, surgery cost will be slightly less than at Mitsui Memorial Hospital.
How to anesthetize
The operation is performed by only eye drop anesthesia. It is held by “Phaco pre-chop method” which takes extremely short time. You can go home with recovered eye on the very day.
Corneal incision
Our cataract operation is done by using diamond surgical knife, which is made by extremely thin blade. Generally, the size of ultrasound cataract surgery incision is 3.0-3.2mm. But we can operate only in 1.8mm.
Astigmatism is caused by in the traditional way of cataract surgery. But operated in very small size like 1.8mm incision, the cornea can be restore its former shape. That is why you don’t have to be sutured the wound and an astigmatism rarely caused.
Cornea doesn’t have blood vessels, so nothing happens like bleedings. You can undergo an operation without suspension of taking medicines. Surgery is also possible for dialysis patients.
Phaco pre-chop method
It is a new surgical technique contrived by Dr. akahoshi. With the past way of cataract operation, crystalline lens was cut from the edge. But in this way, it takes a lot of time and use large amounts of ultrasound energy. The damage is caused to important cells of cornea and incision wound.
On the other hand, operating by “Phaco pre-chop method”, the crystalline lens is crushed in advance, so that you need very little ultrasound energy and little time, less damage to important eye tissue is realized.
The operation time is shortened to 4 minutes for one surgery and it becomes possible to operate with less than 2.0mm incision.
The facilities in Japan which can be able to operate this “Pre-chop method” are limited due to the necessity for preparing special equipment and advanced techniques.
Although, this newest technique is spreading gradually worldwide.
Ultra small incision cataract surgery
In 2003, Dr. akahoshi developed a special nano sleeve to be able to operate an ultrasonic emulsification vacuum with under 2.0mm size of incision. It was required to establish a new way of insertion and make new special injectors (insertion equipment) so that you can put an intraocular lens which diameter has 6.0mm size.
It was put to practical use at Mitsui Memorial Hospital in 2004 by joint development with foreign manufactures and operating with 1.8mm incision has got to be standard method from this year. It can operate with much smaller incision and short time.
An inflammation also can be less and wounds recover faster. After the surgery, the risk of astigmatism and infection become very low.
Acrylic intraocular lens
In our clinic surgery, we use acrylic intraocular lens made by Alcon Ltd. You can get a clear vision by aspheric optical part. It is pale yellow colored lens so that you can block UV rays and other harmful light. The possibility of causing subsequent cataract is the fewest.
No eye patch, No hospitalized
With these new surgical instruments and latest methods, patients can be operated in safe short time.
